Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation

Because Recovery Is More Than Mobility

A spinal cord injury can happen in seconds, but its impact can last a lifetime. Beyond mobility, spinal cord injury (SCI) can affect sensation, bladder and bowel function, pain, skin integrity, psychological well-being, and a person’s ability to live independently.

Early, specialised rehabilitation plays an important role in helping patients maximise their functional potential, develop greater independence, and adapt to life after injury.

A Holistic Approach to SCI Rehabilitation

Our goal-directed rehabilitation programme focuses on the individual and their unique needs, with the aim of improving function, promoting independence, and supporting a safe transition back home and into the community.

Our multidisciplinary team works together to address:

  • Mobility, strength and functional independence
  • Activities of daily living and adaptive equipment
  • Bladder, bowel and skin management
  • Pain management and secondary complications
  • Nutrition and overall health
  • Psychological adjustment and emotional well-being
  • Family education and caregiver support
  • Preparation for discharge and life beyond rehabilitation

Rehabilitation Is a Team Effort

Patients benefit from an integrated multidisciplinary team that may include medical practitioners, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, psychologists and social workers. Working collaboratively with the patient and their family, the team develops an individualised approach that supports both recovery and long-term quality of life.

Supporting Recovery Beyond Rehabilitation

Every spinal cord injury is different, and so is every person’s journey. With the right support, specialised rehabilitation can help individuals build confidence, maximise their independence, and work towards meaningful participation at home and in the community.
