Wellness & Fitness Centre

Gym Facility

Open 7 days a week, this spacious and inviting gym is equipped with modern training equipment and a sparkling 25m swimming pool. Our 140m indoor tartan track is the pride of our centre and it hosts a variety of awesome group exercise classes available to members. SSISA member Brandon Edmonds enthuses about the training environment – “Wrap-around windows face the mountains, it’s open and glassed inside. You immediately see the pool. It doesn’t feel like an aggressively commercial entity – a place devoted to fathoming the body and performance.” Come along and join us – our expert, caring staff and the SSISA community are keen to help you realise your unique goal.

Personal Training

Our personal trainers are qualified biokineticists – so their expert knowledge and skills will help you to get the most out of every training session whilst still having fun! Biokineticists are qualified in assessing body posture, measuring body composition, blood pressure, glucose levels, lung function, heart rate, fitness, muscle strength, endurance, power and flexibility. They can also conduct other health screenings.  Our team of biokineticists will ensure you maximise your training with an individualised and scientific approach.

Assessments

When you join our Wellness and Fitness Centre, a comprehensive health and fitness assessment with our professional biokineticists are first on the list. Using your results and considering your goals, time availability and abilities, you will receive a personalised training programme. You don’t need to be a member of SSISA to benefit from the expertise of our staff. If you want to take your training to the next level – we can design a personalised training programme for you. A once-off assessment includes a full health and fitness evaluation and goal analysis which will be used to prescribe an exercise regime tailor-made for you.

Wellness & Fitness Centre Frequently Asked Questions

What is the qualification of your staff in the Fitness Centre who do personal training?
We have biokineticists and intern biokineticists. They have all completed a 3-year university degree, as well as an Honours degree. Our biokineticists are registered with the Health Professional Council of SA (HPCSA) and have also completed a 1-year internship.
Do I need medical clearance to exercise?
The health of our members is our number one priority, and because of this, we have a thorough screening and induction process so as to provide you with the best possible fitness solution. Upon joining, your sales consultant will go through a preliminary health screening form with you. Certain conditions, e.g. pregnancy, previous or existing heart conditions, will require medical clearance.  Other conditions or risk factors, e.g. high blood pressure or sedentary behaviour are also considered along with your age and gender, and based on your overall profile, you may need to provide a medical clearance form signed by your doctor.
What do I need to bring with me when I come to gym?
You need to wear clothes that are comfortable for you to exercise in, closed shoes (no flip-flops), as well as a small towel to dry off the equipment after use.
Do you provide lockers?
Yes, we provide two different sized lockers at no additional charge – you can get a key from our reception desk when we swipe your membership access card.
Will someone be available to check my blood pressure?
Yes, we have nurses on duty in the mornings and evenings. During the quieter times (e.g. mid-day), one of our floor staff will gladly assist you with blood pressure monitoring, or with any exercise-related query you may have.
