The Running Strength programme at the Sports Science Institute is an ongoing group strength and conditioning programme that compliments your existing training regime. Appropriate strength training is essential not only due to the repetitive demand placed on the body when running, but also to improve running form and economy.
This programme improves endurance and speed, meaning you go further and faster. The programme combines a variety of running specific resistance exercises with the Grucox training bike. The Grucox bike makes use of eccentric training methods while reducing impact placed on the tissue and joints. It also done in a controlled range and speed.
The programme is designed by David Leith, a senior Biokineticist at the High Performance Centre and experienced runner himself. David has worked with elite athletes that have participated in races such as Washie 160km, UTCT, 2 Oceans, UTMB, Addo, Tor des Geant to name a few.
When joining this programme, you will have access to a team of experienced biokineticists who lead you through each training session. David emphasises a periodised and structured programme which takes you through four phases of training: base, strength, power and recovery. These four phases are represented within 12 week cycles and are adapted to continuously improve your fitness.
You will have access to the following at the Sports Science Institute for a monthly debit order of R740 p/m.
