Kids need parents to be great role models, to feel empowered by them and to guide them in making healthy choices. What better way to encourage kids than to be active than to exercise together?
Here at the Sports Science Institute of SA, we do extensive work in the wellness space with regards to kids health, and will be hosting a unique event for dads and their daughters on Saturday morning, 17 November 2018. There will be two 90 minute sessions catering for younger and slightly older daughters. Sponsored by Futurelife – with a Canon camera worth R10 000 up for grabs as a prize – the morning will include fun, fitness, a bit of nutrition, plenty of laughter, some good bonding and a creative competition.
The sessions, run by SSISA’s Kinderkineticist Caylee Cook, will be based on work done in Australia by Prof Phil Morgan who runs the highly successful DADEE (Dads And Daughters Exercising and Empowered) course.

“Research has consistently demonstrated the unique and powerful influence dads wield in shaping physical activity behaviours, learning ability, self-esteem, body image, social skills and resilience, particularly for girls. Importantly, we also know that a strong father-daughter relationship is associated with significant positive psycho-social developmental and health outcomes for the daughter. Physical activity is a unique domain to foster this relationship” says Prof. Phil Morgan.
DADEE targets fathers as the agents of change to improve their daughters’ physical activity levels, sport skills and social-emotional wellbeing. It also engages girls to improve the fitness and physical activity levels, and parenting skills of their fathers.
Dads or guardians, bring your daughters (ages 6 to 12) to be part of fun activities that promote fitness, co-ordination, strength, empowerment and quality time together. Leave feeling energised, connected and aware of the value of time together exercising and being healthy.
