Chronic Disease Risk Reduction and Reversal Programme

The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction and Reversal Programme offers specific rehabilitation for people with chronic diseases of lifestyle. Research has established that 81% of South Africans have one or more of the risk factors for chronic diseases of lifestyle and that these risk factors contribute to 26% of deaths in our country. Specific lifestyle changes, including regular exercise, have been shown to have a positive effect on one's risk factor profile.

The main modifiable risk factors for chronic disease are:

  • Physical inactivity
  • High blood pressure
  • Poor eating habits
  • Smoking
  • High blood cholesterol
  • Psychological stress

The programme aims to modify the above risk factors through a holistic approach that includes regular exercise, dietary intervention, stress management and patient education.

The programme includes:

  • A team of highly qualified and experienced staff, including doctors, nurses, Biokineticists, dieticians, and psychologists
  • Individually prescribed exercise that is designed to meet your specific goals and needs
  • Dietary and psychological advice and interventions
  • Progress reports for your doctor and specialist
  • Educational material and support for both yourself and your family

The Sports Medicine Practice and Chronic Disease Risk Reduction and Reversal Programme form an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals that includes physiotherapists, Biokineticists, dieticians and psychologists. Together we are able to offer you excellent medical care and advice to help you reach your sporting potential or manage your injury or disease.
