Service Providers: Psychology
Clinton Gahwiler (BA Hons MA) runs the psychology practice of the Sports Science Institute. His approach is typically practical and short-term, with the aim of making clients independent through a process of education, training and support. Interventions take the form of individual consultations and / or group workshops. There are two areas of focus:
Sport Psychology
Sport psychology refers to the application of psychological principles to improving sports performance. Athletes, coaches and parents are taught healthy and effective methods of building mental toughness and coping with the pressures of competition.
Health Psychology
Health psychology applies psychological principles to behaviours and lifestyles that affect a person’s physical health. People seek these services when they want to minimize their psychological risk factors for physical illnesses (e.g. heart disease), or require assistance with the emotional effects of such a disease. Burnout and chronic fatigue are also a major focus of this work.
