Service Providers: Dietetic

Shelly Meltzer & Associates offer a complete package of dietary services for persons striving for healthier diets or needing dietary intervention to treat clinical conditions, and sports specific diets for recreational and elite athletes. Based on comprehensive assessments, diets are tailored to meet the individual's needs. From the development athlete to the Olympic athlete, nutritional support for all phases of training and competition is offered. Menus are coordinated for teams, expeditions and adventure athletes travelling locally and internationally and practical workshops for athletes and coaches are offered.

Nutrition interventions for Wellness and Corporate programs include workshops, shopping trips and cooking classes. Education involves course development for Allied Health professionals and chefs, the lay public and postgraduate students, and the practice keeps abreast of scientific developments and maintains a close link with the UCT/MRC Research Unit for Exercise Science and Sports Medicine (ESSM) through teaching and research projects.

The Trufood Station

An exciting and dynamic addition to the dietary practice is the new food service station in the main foyer at the SSISA. The Dieticians are now literally at the forefront linking science to food service and making optimal nutrition information accessible and relevant to all. Working very closely with chefs there is a daily offering of healthy fresh foods to meet specific requirements of all ages, stages and physical demands. The Trufood Station offers a 'good taste' of nutrition coaching in action.

Eating For Sport

This practice is also involved in product development and consults to the food industry on food labelling and legislation and more specifically on marketing their products appropriately to target groups. The writing of articles, brochures, and other nutrition educational material is another service provided by the practice.

Shelly Meltzer, Jenny-Anne Smuts and Karlien Smit are the associates of the dietary practice at the SSISA each bringing to the practice many years of experience and expertise. A number of other dieticians and consultants have joined the practice further broadening the scope of interventions.
