MediFit offers specific rehabilitation for people with chronic diseases of lifestyle. Research has established that 81% of South Africans have one or more of the risk factors for chronic diseases of lifestyle (e.g. high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, etc.) and that these risk factors contribute to 26% of deaths in our country. Specific lifestyle changes, including regular exercise, have been shown to have a positive effect on one's risk factor profile.
The main modifiable risk factors for chronic disease are:

  • Physical inactivity
  • High blood pressure
  • Poor eating habits
  • Smoking
  • High blood cholesterol
  • Psychological stress.

The MediFit programme aims to modify these factors through a holistic approach that includes regular exercise, dietary intervention, stress management and patient education.

The programme includes:

  • Medically supervised exercise sessions for ‘at risk’ patients
  • The support of a team of highly qualified and experienced staff, including doctors, nurses, biokineticists, dieticians and psychologists
  • Prescribed exercises that have been designed to meet your specific goals and needs
  • Dietary and psychological advice and interventions
  • Progress reports for your doctor and specialist
  • Educational material and support for both you and your family.

Running Injury Risk Assessment

The practice also offers a special service to those who are looking for advice on running or walking shoes. The service includes an individual injury risk screening and biomechanical analysis, which arms the client with key information regarding the best shoe to fit his/her static and dynamic alignment. The report also empowers clients with the correct principles to follow in order to minimise the likelihood of primary or secondary injury.

Cycle Assessment

This includes a cycling biomechanics and injury risk reduction assessment, as well as a biomechanically directed bicycle setup.

The sports medicine practice, in conjunction with MediFit, forms a multi-disciplinary team of professionals that includes; physiotherapists, biokineticists, dieticians and psychologists. Together, we are able to offer you excellent medical care and advice to help you reach your sporting potential, optimal health or to manage your injury or illness.
