TRI-Fit

Whether you are an aspiring triathlete, or an athlete who is in training for a half (70.3), or full Ironman, the TRI-Fit programme can help you achieve your goal.

Triathlons are becoming increasingly popular as people enjoy the diversity and challenge of training and competing in 3 disciplines. Inspired by this trend, the SSISA has developed a range of programmes to help triathletes train in a professional and scientific environment – and have lots of fun while doing it.

12-week sprint distance
750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run

All it takes is 12 weeks to get you ready for your first sprint distance triathlon. This programme is ideal if you’ve always wanted to complete a triathlon, or are simply looking for a fresh physical challenge.

The 12-week sprint distance TRI-Fit programme is run by the SSISA’s experienced and qualified staff members who will meet up with you 3 times a week for supervised training sessions. You will be required to complete 5-6 sessions on your own over and above this you will also undergo various fitness and health assessments at the start and end of the programme, reap the rewards of attending dietary workshops and get weekly educational articles that will help you in all aspects of your triathlon training and racing, such as: dietary advice, swimming and running technique, cycling tips, transition training, and more.

To motivate you even further, on joining TRI-Fit, you will receive vouchers and products from our various sponsors which include New Balance, Cycle Lab, Go Multi Magazine, Sports Science Massage Centre and the SSISA Wellness and Fitness Centre.

With this level of scientific input, expertise and support - crossing the finish line will be a breeze.

12-week Jailbreak or 70.3 training programme
Jailbreak       = 2.2km swim, 88km bike, 22km run

70.3                = 1.8km swim, 90km bike, 21km run

The TRI-Fit Jailbreak programme is also a 12 week course and is aimed at the slightly more experienced triathlete, who has a few triathlons under their belt, but who now wants to complete longer triathlons such as the Jailbreak in Brandvlei or the 70.3 in East London.

The 12-week TRI-Fit Jailbreak programme is run by the SSISA’s experienced and qualified staff members who have specific knowledge and experience in the sport of triathlon.  They will meet up with you 3 times a week for supervised training sessions in addition to the 6-8 sessions you will be required to complete on your own. Over and above this you will also undergo various comprehensive fitness and health assessments at the start and end of the programme, reap the rewards of attending dietary and psychology workshops and receive weekly educational articles that will help you in all aspects of your triathlon training and racing. Sessions will include strength training, brick sessions, speed and hill work, open water swimming and transition training.

To motivate you even further, on joining TRI-Fit, you will receive vouchers and products from our various sponsors which include New Balance, Cycle Lab, Go Multi Magazine, Sports Science Massage Centre and the SSISA Wellness and Fitness Centre.

Read what past TRI-Fit members have said about Tri-Fit:

 “I certainly wasn’t the fastest in the programme and am not going to win any Triathlon event any time soon but I have found a new sport that has inspired me to push myself harder.  This programme has shown me that I can do things that I never believed I would and given me the confidence to keep on chipping away at my fears” – Victoria Hawkins (30 years old)

“The approach has been scientific and personable. People who haven’t cycled in 20 years have taken to the streets and learned bunch riding skills. Others who could hardly swim 200m are now swimming 800m. I have always held the Sport Science Institute of SA in high regard and now I know I have good reason to do so! “ –Ralph Kujawa (41 years old)
