Programmes: Prime Time

The Sports Science Institute's Prime Time Programme is a unique new 6 or 12- month membership that is aimed specifically at the individual, with various heart and health risk factors and who may need medical supervision in order to exercise. A unique feature is that the Prime Time Programme is managed by a qualified nursing sister who is on hand to monitor individuals and their health status during exercise sessions.

Who is Prime Time aimed at?

  • For individuals that have had a cardiac event but have completed 3 months of cardiac rehabilitation and have had a stress test in the last 12 months.
  • Those people that are at high risk for developing cardiovascular disease, but have completed a stress test with a negative result.

Induction

Prior to starting the programme, our team of skilled professionals will guide each member through a focused induction process. Induction onto the programme takes place on Mondays at 06:00 or 08:00 and consists of 2 phases:

  • Phase 1: (30 minute session with nursing sister)
    • General introduction to the programme.
    • Issuing of training logbook and orange band
    • Establishing a member file
  • Phase 2: (1 hour session with a Biokineticist)
    • Goal setting
    • Programme prescription and consultation
    • Guidelines on weekly training regime

Training Hours

  • Nursing supervision is offered as follows:
    • Mon-Thurs 06:00-10:00 and 16:00-19:00
    • Friday 06:00-10:00
  • Members are however free to train between 10:00 and 16:00 daily on condition that they wear the orange band at all times and check in with a SSISA staff member on duty.
  • Prime Time members do not have access on Friday evenings or weekends.

Training on Prime Time

  • Members are recommended to attend at least 3 times a week during in the morning or evening when the nurse is on duty.
  • Members are recommended to 'check in' with the nurse before and after each session. Any details/measurements are to be noted in the member's logbooks.
  • All training will be guided by the doctor's recommendations on heart rate limitations.
  • All Prime Time members have access to the Wellness and Fitness Centre which boasts state of the art exercise equipment, indoor heated pool and indoor running/walking track all in a comfortable non threatening environment.
