MediFit

MediFit offers specific rehabilitation for people with chronic diseases of lifestyle. Statistics show that 24.5% of deaths in South Africa are from lifestyle-related chronic diseases and the Medifit programme has been designed to address this growing condition by modifying risk factors such as:

  • Physical inactivity
  • Smoking
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Poor eating habits
  • Stress
The programme caters for anyone who has:
  • Cardiac Diseases (Bypass surgery, angioplasty, stent, arrhythmia, valve disease, heart failure, etc.)
  • Pacemaker
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Diabetes
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Respiratory disease
  • Cancer recovery
  • Renal disease
  • Rheumatoid and osteoarthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • HIV disease
  • Frailty and aging
The 2-part programme aims to modify these factors through a holistic approach that includes regular exercise, dietary intervention, stress management and patient education.

Phase 1: EliteCare Programme

This component forms the first 12 weeks of the programme and begins with one-on- one training until the patient is comfortable with the exercise prescription. After which, training is done in a small group session with a high staff/patient ratio. The emphasis of EliteCare is on slow, individualised and carefully monitored exercise that teaches the patient to trust in his or her body once again. Therapeutic education is a key focus of EliteCare and all patients are reassessed once they’ve completed this phase.

Phase 2: OptiHealth Programme

OptiHealth forms the second 12-week training component and an emphasis is placed on the improvement of physical fitness and the further reduction of risk factors. This part of the programme has been designed to prepare the patient so that he or she can eventually progress to medically directed or unsupervised exercise settings.

Running Injury Risk Assessment

The practice also offers a special service to those who are looking for advice on running or walking shoes. The service includes an individual injury risk screening and biomechanical analysis, which arms the client with key information regarding the best shoe to fit his/her static and dynamic alignment. The report also empowers clients with the correct principles to follow in order to minimise the likelihood of primary or secondary injury.

Cycle Assessment

This includes a cycling biomechanics and injury risk reduction assessment, as well as a biomechanically directed bicycle setup.

Corporate Medicals

The practice also offers corporate medical services, which include a comprehensive consultation with one of the sports physicians, a resting and stress ECG, lung function test, anthropometric measurements plus blood profiling and urine analysis.
