The Sports Science Institute of South Africa's Healthy Weight Programme offers a holistic and healthy approach to weight loss. Using experienced staff and scientific knowledge, the programme encourages positive and sustainable lifestyle changes. Programme participants are looked after and advised by a team of multi-disciplinary specialists that include biokineticists, exercise physiologists, a dietician and a health psychologist.
The Healthy Weight Programme has been able to keep abreast with changes and trends in the field of weight loss through the association with the MRC/UCT Exercise Science and Sports Medicine research unit, headed up by Professor Tim Noakes.
The approach is simple - to achieve a lifestyle change.
The programme takes individuals through a number of phases that include both the provision of greater knowledge and awareness of food choices, as well as practical sessions that increase physical activity levels and improve commitment to healthy lifestyle habits. These components all form part of a healthier and safer approach to losing weight and weight management.
The programme offers:
- Continuing education on strategies for weight loss, weight management and a healthy lifestyle.
- A dietary session to analyse eating habits and prescribe a personalised, healthy eating plan.
- A consultation with a Biokineticist and Exercise Scientist to prescribe safe and effective exercise.
- Input from a Health Psychologist regarding lifestyle choices.
- Regular monitoring of progress.
